why should we not judge events and people of the past by our own standards?

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Why shouldn't we judge historical figures by the standards of our time?

Many of the vices we might rightfully judge a historical society or individual for are largely universal across culture and society.

We should judge them accordingly and learn from their mistakes, but we should also judge them by the degree to which that person or culture rejected those common vices and built something better. This is something quite rare and it’s far more useful as a learning tool for us to focus on this.

For example, the Greeks and Romans practiced slaveryBut so did every other ancient society. What is unique and admirable about the Greeks and Romans is the degree to which they did respect indvidual rights, seriously questioned slavery as an institution, and developed a secular, pro reason culture

A. All of the answers are true.

B. The voyages eventually led to the discovery of the Americas.

C. Cultures and traditions were shared through trade and exploration.

D. Exploration increased European wealth and opened new trade routes.

Answers

Answer:

A. All of the answers are true, however:

Explanation:

It is improper to state that it led to the "discovery" of the Americas, as discovery is quite subjective, and the Europeans were not the first people group to arrive to the Americas. If you were only talking about the European perspective, it is a correct statement, however, this is viewed through the lends of history, and therefore is not a 100% true statement. Instead, it should be: "the voyages eventually led to the Europeans finding out the existence of the Americas".

How did trade in India change during the days of Ancient Rome?

Answers

Answer:

Trade Routes and Currency Help the Romans Build a Stronger Empire

You have learned that Rome grew its empire through a series of wars. The Romans knew how to conquer new territory. But it takes more than armies and fighting to keep an empire. An empire also needs a strong economy to feed its people, provide necessary goods as well as luxuries, and pay for its armies and government.

A key part of any economy is trade. As the empire grew, the Romans promoted trade by improving trade routes and providing a single currency, or form of money. Lets look at how these steps helped the Romans grow their economy and strengthen their empire. At its height during the 100s c.e., the Roman Empire ruled all the lands that ringed the Mediterranean Sea. The expansion of the empire had given the Romans control of trade routes as well as territory. Traders traveling by land and sea connected people and goods throughout the empire. From Spain came wine, olive oil, copper, and gold. Britain sold its tin and wool. Gaul produced olives, wine, grain, glass, and pottery. Wool, linen, and timber were shipped from Asia Minor (present-day Turkey) and Syria. Egypt provided papyrus, which was used to make paper, and vast amounts of grain. Every year vast grain fleets sailed from Egypt and Africa, bringing much-needed food to Rome.

Trade also brought valuable goods from outside the empire. Caravans brought goods to busy port cities on the Mediterranean. From Africa came gold, incense, and ivory, and luxuries such as ostrich eggs. Indian spices, Chinese silk, and other goods traveled across Asia by land to cities like Antioch in Syria. From there they were shipped to Rome.

The Romans improved these trade routes and created new ones. They built harbors, canals, and a vast system of roads.

While it lasted, the Pax Romana (Roman Peace) provided the order and stability that trade required. The Roman army made the roads and sea routes safe for traders.

In turn, trade helped the economy grow. People in each area of the empire could sell what they grew or made to people in other areas who could use these goods. They could also buy things that they couldnt produce for themselves. For instance, the city of Rome needed much more grain to feed its people than local farmers could grow. By trading with Egypt, Romans got the grain they needed. Egypt benefited by selling grain to Rome.

Explanation:

What do you think is the allure ( draw /appeal ) of the western

Answers

Answer:

The United States desired the West because the West coast would open up the United States to Asian markets.  Eastern ports connected the U.S with Europe.  The West meant we could expand our trading power globally.

The population was rapidly growing in the East, Americans were running out of room, they had to move West.

Economic hardships (panics and depressions) in the East pushed Americans to the West.

The West had abundant,  inexpensive, and often free, land. This not only attracted eastern Americans, but poor, landless Europeans as well.

The British had their eyes on the West as well.  Prior to the Annexation of Texas, Britain had established a friendly relationship with the Republic of Texas.  They were interested in trading with Texas and keeping the U.S from expanding West.  In order to limit British influence in America, the United States decided to Annex Texas in 1845.

Describe copernicus' theory!

Answers

Copernican heliocentrism is the name given to the astronomical model developed by Nicolaus Copernicus and published in 1543. This model positioned the Sun at the center of the Universe, motionless, with Earth and the other planets orbiting around it in circular paths, modified by epicycles, and at uniform speeds. The Copernican model displaced the geocentric model of Ptolemy that had prevailed for centuries, which had placed Earth at the center of the Universe. Copernican heliocentrism is often regarded[by whom?] as the launching point to modern astronomy and the Scientific Revolution.

Heliocentric model from Nicolaus Copernicus' De revolutionibus orbium coelestium (On the Revolutions of the Heavenly Spheres)
Although he had circulated an outline of his own heliocentric theory to colleagues sometime before 1514, he did not decide to publish it until he was urged to do so late in his life by his pupil Rheticus. Copernicus's challenge was to present a practical alternative to the Ptolemaic model by more elegantly and accurately determining the length of a solar year while preserving the metaphysical implications of a mathematically ordered cosmos. Thus, his heliocentric model retained several of the Ptolemaic elements, causing inaccuracies such as the planets' circular orbits, epicycles, and uniform speeds,[1] while at the same time introducing such innovative ideas as:-

The Earth is one of several planets revolving around a stationary sun in a determined order.
The Earth has three motions: daily rotation, annual revolution, and annual tilting of its axis.
Retrograde motion of the planets is explained by the Earth's motion.
The distance from the Earth to the Sun is small compared to the distance from the Sun to the stars.
